WE ARE GETTING MARRIED!!

What better way to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the day we met?! Please join us on Friday, September 25th, 2026.

We will update this website as we hammer out the details and let you know via the contact your provide in your RSVP.

How we met

We met online in September 2016! Thanks, OKCupid! As two jaded and weary souls, we took it slowly. We were both inclined to resist labels and to downplay our deepening feelings. Our courtship was live music, restaurants, and bike rides. We found one another's company to be both thrilling and steadying. We were quickly inseparable, sharing many joys and learning to support one another.

Eventually, there was no denying the depth of our love; we found that we fit together like puzzle pieces.

In September 2017, Emily suggested that Matthew move in with her, Matthew was an immediate and enthusiastic 'Yes!'. We agreed that January was a good timeframe to make such a joining thoughtful and intentional; and that Matthew would keep his apartment for a while, just in case. Our courage was rewarded and cohabitation served merely to confirm our compatibility. Since then, through the turns of pandemic, cross-country relocation, and the rise of American Fascism, our love has only deepened and strengthened.

Events

Thursday, September 24th

Dinner Evening

Join us to enjoy some delicious food.

Location and further details forthcoming.

Friday, September 25th

An Evening Wedding in our Backyard Evening

The main event! Join us for a ceremony and celebrations. We’ll have food, music, an art table, an oral history booth, porta potties, and tours of the woodworking facilities. We’d love for you to wear your fancy duds, but it’s more important that you feel comfortable.

Saturday, September 26th

Picnic Brunch and Optional Hike Morning

Our favorite 3.8 mile hike at Red Top Mountain, the Iron Hill Loop. There is some up and down, but it’s not a technical hike. There are beautiful views of Lake Allatoona. Walk with us or meet us afterwards for a casual picnic in the meadow.

Sunday, September 27th

Yoga Class or Woodworking Morning

Join the bride for a gentle yoga class (no experience required), or the groom for some fun with woodworking. More details forthcoming.

Registry

We don’t have a registry.
Look, we are old and we don’t need any presents. 😄 Save your money (especially in this economy, right?)!
-------
However, we would love to receive something you have created. For example:

  • - a nice note from you with well-wishes
  • - a treatise on love
  • - a recording of you singing your favorite love song
  • - your recommendations of love-related books, poetry or movies*
  • - a drawing or some art you made, etc.

* fun fact: Matthew thinks (correctly -ed.) that Ladyhawke is the most romantic movie of all time
And don’t let this stress you out - we really don’t need any presents! We have each other, so no worries if this kind of request isn’t for you.
-------
If you absolutely must spend money, please consider donating to one of these causes in our name.

Logistics

Transportation: The closest airport is the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Public transportation doesn’t get out to us (but Uber and Lyft do). Speaking of public transportation, there is none in our immediate area, and biking is not safe (no infrastructure and a lot of jerks in big trucks). If you are staying near us, you will likely need to rent a car (ugh I know).

Lodging: We don't have specific hotel recommendations. As you are looking for your hotel or rental, Acworth, Kennesaw and Woodstock are largeish close-by cities.

Parking: We will update this section with instructions for event parking.

Weather: While summers in Northwest Georgia are hot and humid, fall can be really lovely (and sometimes unpredictable). We are hoping that we will have idyllic weather, but there is always a chance it will be unusually hot or unusually cold.

Exploration opportunities

Matthew and Emily live about 45 minutes Northwest of Atlanta, in unincorporated Cherokee County (between Acworth and Woodstock). It is suburban, politically purple (though more red-leaning than Atlanta itself), and if you get out in the woods, it is truly beautiful. We are close enough to Atlanta for day trips, and there are also some interesting things and restaurants closer to us. We are working on updating this document with recommendations, check it out!
